The inspection report said Brazil is an “appropriate choice” to host the 2014 World Cup. The inspectors said Brazil has demonstrated itself to be more than capable of hosting what they called “an exceptional World Cup.”

The report was sent to the FIFA executive committee, which will announce its decision on Tuesday.

Brazil is the only candidate bidding to host football’s biggest event in 2014. FIFA has a policy of rotating the tournament among the continents. Brazil has won the world cup five times, but has hosted the tournament only once – in 1950 when it lost to Uruguay at Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

“David has trained with the club all week and he will be available for selection. We know his quality and what he brings to the team so if he is feeling good and we want to play him, we will. I’ve got to talk to him to make sure he is feeling good. He would be a pretty valuable substitute if he was available,” said  Yallop.

That rather implies Beckham will start the game on the bench, but as Galaxy have won their last five games without him, it’s hardly surprising. And after speculation about Beckham’s back, here’s a picture of the front.

Footie Blog has won FiddyP’s Free headphone contest. In a last minute effort in the second half, Footie Blog came through to seize the match (headphones) with a desperate goal that snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

The last time Footie Blog thought he’d won anything, it turned out to be a £200 speeding fine and an invitation to discuss his driving habits with a local magistrate, so he’s a happy bunny.

Of course, what FiddyP doesn’t yet know is that I live on a small planet in the vicinity of Beetlejuse, so the postage might be a little steep. What makes you think it’s only humans that like football?

As soon as the headphones arrive I will make a huge post about their wonderful splendiforousness and FiddyP’s huge generosity. In the meantime, here’s another photo of the sexiest headphones ever. And they’re mine all mine. Watch this space.

COACHES WANTED – ‘A’ Grade, ‘A’ Reserve, ‘A’ Colts, and ‘A’ Thirds Coaching Staff

The Scarborough Amateur Football Club is seeking coaching staff for the ‘A’ Grade, ‘A’ Reserve, ‘A’ Colts, and ‘A’ Thirds teams competing in the relevant divisions of the Western Australian Amateur Football League in 2008.  The Club has recently appointed a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and General Committee and is seeking to re-establish itself as one of the premier clubs in the WAAFL ‘A’ Grade competition.  A remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicants commensurate with experience.

The Blues have the vital second leg of the UEFA Cup tie in the Ukraine on Thursday, when a win or scoring draw of two goals or more is required to avoid exiting the competition at the first hurdle. Lescott, Everton’s leading scorer this season, says the Toffees may have underestimated Kharkiv in the opening tie.

“I think we didn’t show them enough respect in the home leg and pushed a lot of men forward,” he told everton TV.

“It will be a different game out there, we are going to have to sit back and look for the counter.”

The former Wolves man acknowledged that the defence may have to step up their performances, despite keeping clean sheets in their last two games.

“We kept a clean sheet in midweek (against Sheffield Wednesday) and that provided a boost for Sunday but we rode our luck a bit and if we iron out a few mistakes hopefully we can continue,” he explained. “We have created a lot of chances in the last couple of games so if we can continue that into Thursday then who knows.”

And Lescott knows plenty about finishing off those chances, having scored four times so far this term. “It is always nice to get on the scoresheet,” he said. “I think the ball is just falling to me in the right places at the minute. To score another one (on Sunday) was great.

“It is important not just as individuals but as a unit. I think our defensive unit has scored a few goals this season so we will be looking to continue.”
